Do you want to know how your child is doing in school?
Do you want specific ideas and strategies on how to help your child at home?
Our ASSESSMENT process for grades K-6 can provide you with information on what your child knows, how your child learns best, and what strategies would help your child be more successful in school.
Our assessments cover the following academic areas:
1) Mathematics
2) Reading
3) Spelling
4) Writing
What happens during the assessment?
- First, we meet with the parent to discuss the child. We want to know what the child is good at, what the child struggles with, feedback that the teacher has given to the parent, and results of any testing (formal and class tests).
- Second, we meet with the child and have an interactive session while the child answers questions in the subject area. This is an informal assessment – not a standardized assessment and therefore we can get the big picture about your child, not just how well they can perform on a standardized test. We look at how the student reads a question, how they think through the answer, what strategies he or she uses, and is the answer correct.
- Third, we meet with the parent again to discuss what we found during the session.
- Fourth, we provide you with a written report that tells you what your child knows, what they don’t know, how the child learns and approaches problems, and what educational methods best fit your child and will help the child be successful.
- Lastly, we make recommendations for regular tutoring, parent classes *(see below), and ideas to present to the teacher to get your teacher’s help for improving the academic work of your child.
Formal Assessments: Woodcock Johnson III
We also offer students the opportunity to take a formal standardized assessment, the Woodcock Johnson III test. This test cost is $115.00 and will determine your child’s strengths and weaknesses and allow our center to get a better picture of your child’s needs.
