Based on the books of Mary Pope Osbourne
Spend a week reading books from the Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osbourne while developing your Language Arts skills and learning the Science or Social Studies concepts behind the books. This course provides academic enrichment and addresses the North Carolina Standard Course of Study Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science standards for grades K-3.
*Individual Classes may be taken at a rate of $40 per class plus the cost of the book if needed by student. Email Lynne@apexlearningcenter.com if you are interested in specific days over the whole week to do registration.
Magic Tree House Camp #1Day One: Dinosaurs Before Dark: Read Dinosaurs Before Dark and learn about dinosaurs while building Language Arts skills and building content knowledge in Science. We will learn about paleontology, create and name our own dinosaurs, and build magic tree houses as well. Day Two: Knight at Dawn: Read Knight at Dawnand learn about the Middle Ages while building Language Arts skills and expanding content knowledge in Social Studies. We will explore the architectural elements of castles and design our own castles, as well as try our hand at illumination. Day Three: Mummies in the Morning: Read Mummies in the Morning and learn about Ancient Egypt, pyramids, and mummies while building Language Arts skills and building content knowledge in Social Studies. Day Four: Pirates Past Noon: Read Pirates Past Noon and explore the life of pirates in the late 1800's through experimental activities, games, and crafts. Day Five: Night of the Ninjas: Read Night of the Ninjas and learn about Ancient Japan while building Language Arts skills and expanding content knowledge in Social Studies. Code: MTH1T1 Magic Tree House Camp #2Day One: Afternoon on the Amazon: Read Afternoon on the Amazon and learn about rainforests and the people and animals that live there while building Language Arts skills and expanding content knowledge in Science.
Day Two: Sunset of the Sabertooth: Read Sunset of the Sabertooth and learn about ice age peoples and animals through books, experimental activities, games, and crafts. Day Three: Midnight on the Moon: Read Midnight on the Moon and learn about the moon, our solar system, space travel, and the international space station while building Language Arts skills and expanding content knowledge in Science. Day Four: Dolphins at Daybreak: Read Dolphins at Daybreak and learn about coral reefs and ocean animals through experimental activities, games, and crafts. Day Five: Ghost Town at Sundown: Read Ghost Town at Sundown and learn about the Wild West and westward expansion while building Language Arts skills and expanding content knowledge in Social Studies. Day Two: Polar Bears Past Bedtime: Read Polar Bears Past Bedtime and learn about the Arctic and the people and animals that live there while building Language Arts skills and expanding content knowledge in Social Studies and Science.
Day Three: Vacation Under the Volcano: Read Vacation Under the Volcano and learn about the Roman empire, Pompeii, and volcanoes while building Language Arts skills and expanding content knowledge in Social Studies and Science.
Day Four: Day of the Dragon King: Read Day of the Dragon King and learn about ancient China through games, crafts and hands-on activities.
Day Five: Viking Ships at Sunrise: Read Viking Ships at Sunrise and learn about the Vikings, their way of life and explorations while building Language Arts skills and expanding content knowledge in Social Studies. Currently registering for the following:

Code: MTH3T3 Magic Tree House Camp #7Day One: Tigers at Twilight: Read Tigers at Twilight and travel to India to learn about its culture through crafts, games, and experiential activities. Day Two: Dingoes at Dinnertime: Read Dingoes at Dinnertime and take a trip to Australia to learn about its history and the people and animals that live there through hands-on learning projects. Day Three: Civil War on Sunday: Read Civil War on Sunday and learn about what it was to live in America at the time of the Civil War. Day Four: Twister on Tuesday: Read Twister on Tuesday and learn about life on the American frontier in the 1870's and tornadoes through hands-on crafts, games and activities. Day Five: High Tide in Hawaii: Read High Tide in Hawaii and learn about Hawaiian culture, oceans, and tsunamis through games, crafts, and other hands-on activities.

Around the World in a Week Camp #1
Join us for an adventure around the world as we explore five unique countries and their history and culture through books, crafts, games, cooking, and other activities. Build literacy, social studies, and geography skills while having fun. This camp is for students in grades K-3. Around the World in a Week - June 11,12 Code: AWW1 This course is taught by Hardin Engelhardt. Hardin is a reading and ESL specialist with 16 years of education experience. She holds a Masters degree in Language, Literacy, and Culture from UC Berkeley. Her primary work has been with middle school students and teachers, but as a parent of two young children, she has developed a passion for early literacy as well.
